Parents in Ngodhe Sub Location of Suba North Sub County have been warned against sending their children to quarry sites in God Kuge of Homa Bay County.
Some parents at Lwala village send their children to God Kuge quarry to excavate soils for smearing their houses in the area.
Speaking to KNA, the area Senior Assistant Chief, Charles Ngoe said that God Kuge quarry has posed a lot of risks to the lives of the minors.
Ngoe said that they will not allow more deaths to occur at the quarry after a class three pupil at Kuge primary school died two weeks ago after she was buried alive while excavating soil.
The officer revealed that they have liaised with police officers and instructed clan elders from the villages surrounding God Kuge to identify parents who have been sending their children at the quarry to ensure they are arrested and arraigned in court.
He regretted that the area is being degraded despite their efforts to stop the villagers from engaging in the soil excavation for smearing their houses.
He however, called on the residents to look for alternative ways of getting soil for smearing their house instead of excavating soil from the quarry but rather leave the place for tree planting and other activities that can benefit the community.
