Some 18 paralympic players from Migori County are likely to miss in the National tournament slated on 10th of this Month in Meru County due to financial constraints.
Speaking to KNA at Rawinja resort centre in Oyugis town, Migori County Paralympic Coordinator, Thomas Otieno Okong’o said they are facing challenges in terms of transport, uniform and accommodation due to lack of money.
Otieno who led the team for training at the centre said that the assistance they got from well wishers and their personal contribution may not sustain them till the end of training next Sunday.
The coordinator who was accompanied by the Chairman, Newton Nikonya and Secretary, Charles Odhiambo appealed to Migori county government to take paralympic games seriously like any other game by supporting them both morally and financially.
He also requested the county government to include paralympic games in their annual budget to enable them compete effectively with other counties like Homa Bay, and Meru.
At the same time, Okong’o stressed that their main objective is to make Persons living with disabilities to be self reliant to avoid begging in the streets.
He added that the disabled can engage in viable income generating activities like tree planting and bakery apart from sporting activities if well facilitated.
