Opposition has accused the government of planning to rig Elections

The opposition has accused the government of planning to use security officers to rig the August 8, 2017 General Election.

The opposition alleged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has recruited police officers as returning officers who will in turn be used to manipulate the results.

Led by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, his Homa Bay counterpart Cyprian Awiti, nominated MP, Oburu Odinga, Homa Bay Women Representative, Gladys Wanga, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, the leaders requested the government to make public the identity of the returning officers for transparency and accountability.

Joho alleged that the recruited police officers have been instructed to declare President Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner in the August 8 polls.

We have details of the meeting attended by the top security personnel. They are under firm orders to announce President Kenyatta as the winner in the elections, said Joho.

Joho made the remarks today in Homa Bay town during a youth conference where he dared the police to act in favour of jubilee party.

The work of the police is to protect citizen. They should not be used to steal votes, said Joho.
