A Kakamega official has quashed claims that Governor Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was heckled at a funeral on Sunday.
Oparanya was reportedly booed in Matungu constituency during the burial of Teremi principal Japheth Mang’eni.
Addressing the press in his office yesterday, chief of staff Nabii Nabwera termed the report untrue and malicious.
He said there is a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing Oparanya’s image.
Nabwera said the media is being used to portray Oparanya as a person who has lost support.
“We shall soon name those behind this propaganda,” Nabwera said.
Nabwera said one of those involved in the smear campaign is a senior editor of a leading daily newspaper.
He said the editor is fighting back after what he perceives as having been denied business by the county government.
“We want to tell these people that what they are doing is unethical,” Nabwera said.
“They will not deter the county government from delivering services to the people.”
