A 30 year old man was last Sunday killed at Kamketoyi village in Pokot Central by suspected armed bandits from the Marakwet East sub county
The bandits sprayed several bullets on the deceased and his 60 year old companion was seriously injured by the same bandits who ambushed them in the evening hours.
Confirming the incident the area deputy county commissioner Mr Were Simiyu said Lokodosikori Peloi died on the spot while Muketany Petangole who sustained serious injuries were ambushed by a group of four criminals while on their way back home.
The criminals didn’t steal anything but they just opened fire and dashed to the thicket. The motive is not yet established but they are suspected to be from Marakwet East. he said
He said police officers have been deployed to the area to calm mounting tension, saying investigation are still on-going.
If they were after stealing livestock in Pokot Central, then their mission failed. The injured was rescued by residents who took him to the hospital he said.
He said the incident is the second happening within a period of one month, saying they are treating it like a criminal act because the bandits were not after stealing animals but their intention was to kill.
The injured person is at Kapenguria refferal Hospital recuperating and police have been deployed in the area to maintain peace, while the body in the hospital mortury he said.
