Residents of Uasin Gishu County have joined other Kenyans in mourning the death of former long time Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament of Keiyo South Nicholas Kipyator Kiprono Biwott who died Tuesday at Nairobi Hospital.
The late Biwott who was popularly known by many as ‘Karnet’ meaning iron, joint politics 1974 when he contested and lost to the late Stanley Kurgat.
Biwott later captured the seat in the subsequent 1979 general election and was appointed to the Cabinet, a position he held throughout Moi’s regime but retained the Keiyo South seat until 2007 general election when he lost it to Jackson Kiptanui.
While condoling the family of the onetime political kingpin, considered as the most powerful individual outside the presidency, the leaders led by Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Kiprotich Chemno and the Kalenjin Council of elders Chairman Major (rt) John Seii while speaking to Kenya News Agency (KNA) paid tribute to the late Biwott, saying he was a patriotic and selfless leader who did a lot for this country from building schools, churches and assisting the needy both in his constituency and outside.
The leaders further said that, once again the cruel hand of death had robbed this country of a dedicated servant who despite his age and ailment had continued to offer words of advice to the upcoming leaders and described his demise as a blow to many Kenyans.
