Celebrations to mark Madaraka Day in Murang’a County will not be held at the county level since the County Commissioner and other county leaders have been invited to attend the National Celebrations to be held in Nyeri town.
In a letter sent to all heads of departments in the county, Murang’a County Commissioner, John Elung’ata said the celebrations will however, go on as usual in the respective sub-county headquarter venues.
This year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations had been scheduled to take place in Gitugi in Mathioya Constituency where the County Commissioner was expected to read the president’s speech.
It has been a tradition in the County to rotate celebrations in various venues across the county where the County Commissioner and the Governor attended.
While the County celebrations are normally marked with an elaborate programme and attract many residents, the celebrations at the sub county level experience low turnout with many of the participants being government officials.
Murang’a East Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner, Kepha Marube, has however, appealed to members of the public to turn out in large numbers for the Sub County celebrations at Ihura Stadium, Murang’a Town.
