Nine women were on Wednesday cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for West Pokot women rep seat in the August General Elections.
Those cleared were: Lilian Tomitom (Jubilee); Independent candidates Knight Chongorio and Rodah Rotino; Catherine Mukenyang (Kanu); Emily Partan (NVP); Regina Nyeris (CCM); Brigit Chepkasan (ANC); Teresa Lokichu (PNU) and Janice Plapan (ODM)
Makutano town was on Wednesday painted with rainbow colours as hundreds of their supporters flocked the streets in celebrations after the nine candidates were cleared at Mtelo hall.
The current women rep, Regina Nyeris was cleared on a CCM ticket after she decamped from jubilee in April after sensing defeat during primaries.
The County Returning Officer, John Mwangi requested all candidates to ensure that they preach peace during their campaigns.
Speaking after being cleared Mukenyang said her team would hit the ground running and promised to unleash a campaign never seen in the region.
She added that the clearance by IEBC was an indicator that she had what it takes to be a women rep for the region.
The County Kanu Chairman, Monges Lotodo congratulated Mukenyang, saying they will popularize the party to be stronger, especially now it had fielded candidates in various seats .
