Nine administration police officers were Wednesday critically injured in a road accident at Mahanga in Vihiga County.
The officers were being transported from Kidundu grounds in Vihiga Sub County to Mahanga police base after their morning practice in preparation for Madaraka day celebrations Thursday.
Area County AP commander Martin Kibet said some of the officers sustained major injuries and were rushed to Kisumu referral hospital for specialized treatment.
We have been able to evacuate four officers to Kisumu for treatment while another five have been transferred to Jumuia hospital in Hamisi Sub County, said Kibet.
The commander was speaking at Vihiga referral hospital shortly after the accident whereby the AP land cruiser allegedly rolled several times when the driver tried to evade an oncoming matatu which was driving on the wrong lane.
It was alleged that the medics at the institution were on a go slow and it took the intervention of one of the senior local administrator to persuade one of the health official to attend to the patients.
According to one of the medics who did not wish to be named, the health officials were on a go slow and this prompted the senior administrators to transfer the officers for better medical treatment to other facilities.
Our efforts to talk to Vihiga Medical superintendent of health Emmanuel Ayodi were futile as he was held up in a meeting for the better part of the day.
