Nacada Gave Funds to 86 ‘Fake’ NGOs

The National Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse funded 86 unregistered NGOs to conduct civic campaigns against alcohol and drug abuse, a parliamentary committee heard yesterday.

The National Assembly Administration and National Security Committee was told the anti-drug agency gave more than two-thirds of Sh100 million to unregistered organisations to run its awareness campaigns across the country.

Of the 119 organisations funded, only 33 were registered by the NGO Coordination Board.

Board executive director Fazul Mahamed said the list provided by Nacada contained entities that could not be recognised by the regulator.
