Mumias East Sub-county clinched first position in the finals of Kakamega County Governor’s Cup that was played on Thursday at Mumias Sports Complex Stadium in Mumias West Sub-County.
The tournament brought together 2,400 teams with over 36,000 participants from all the 60 wards and saw teams compete in football, volleyball and netball disciplines for both men and women.
Kakamega County Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya who watched the games said he was impressed by the turnout and promised to make 2016 Governor’s Cup Tournament much bigger.
He encouraged the youth in the county to continue nurturing and making positive use of their diverse talents even after the tournament.
The Governor urged potential team coaches from the premier league who were present to pick some of the best players and incorporate them into their teams.
He added that the best teams will represent the county during the inter-county games to be held in 2016.
Winning teams were awarded trophies, certificates and cash prizes. Mumias East MP. Benjamin Washiali was also present.
