MP opposes relocation of dumpsite to Muhoroni

Muhoroni Member of Parliament, Mr. James Koyoo has opposed plans by the county government to relocate the Kisumu dumpsite to Muhoroni town.

Addressing the Press in Kisumu town on Monday, Koyoo said plans by the county government to relocate the Kisumu dumpsite will be an environmental threat to the residents of his constituency.

The dumpsite located next to Moi Stadium Kisumu has been a centre of controversy after residents, including local soccer fans terming the dumpsite an eyesore and a health hazard.

Koyoo at the same time appealed to the management of Miwani Sugar Factory to pay the local farmers their dues in time.

He said instead of waiting for the national government to offset the farmers’ unpaid dues as had happened in the past the factory management should ensure prompt payment.

The legislator further pledged to push for farmers’ right in the privatization of the factory, saying the local farmers need to buy shares to co-own it with the would be buyer once the national government relinquishes the facility.

He also promised to continue implementing the peace agenda rolled out recently following the skirmishes instigated perennially by cattle rustlers along the Kisumu/Nandi border.
