The Busia County Deputy Governor, Moses Mulomi has expressed commitment by the County government to support women.
Speaking during the celebration to mark the World’s Women Day at Busia Agricultural Training Centre on Thursday, Mulomi said more than Sh23 million would be given to groups with priority focus on women.
In Busia, we are working together to ensure that women empowerment is given the first priority, he said.
He added that during 2018/19 fiscal year, allocation of empowerment funds would be doubled.
The Busia Governor’s wife, Judy Ojaamong thanked the governor for appointing women in his new Cabinet.
Mrs. Ojaamong promised to initiate table banking that would be owned and controlled by women from the County in order to enable them to enjoy the fruits of devolution.
She at the same time challenged women to apply for County Government tenders, adding that they would be given priority.
The Busia Women Representative, Florence Mutua honoured 21 women for their distinguished service to the County.
The event was sponsored by the National government (Department of Gender Services), Kenya Red Cross, Equity Bank in collaboration with Busia County Government.
