Mob kills suspected cow thief in Kitale

A 30 year old man was on Sunday beaten to death and his body set ablaze by an angry mob at Makunga village in Trans Nzoia County for allegedly stealing a cow.

According to the Machewa sub location assistant chief, Cosmas Barasa, the owner of the cow, Elizabeth Chemweno, raised alarm after she spotted a person untying her only cow in her home.

Neighbours who responded to her distress call responded quickly and found the suspect dragging away the cow from the animal shed.

They set upon the unspecified man killing him on the spot.

His body was removed by the police to Kitale Referral hospital.

Kitale Police County Commander, Lilian Okembo said investigations had been launched and warned members of the public against taking the law into their hands.

We have launched investigation into the matter to establish persons behind the killing. It’s against the law to take one’s life even if he or she is on the wrong side of law, said Ms Okembo.
