Police in Kisumu Sunday recovered the body of a minor who had been reported missing last week at a thicket near Maritime Training School.
The body of the 5 year old boy was found under a tree trunk and taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for postmortem.
Confirming the incident, Kisumu OCPD Mutune Maweu said the boy, a pupil at Pundo Our lady of Mercy Primary School went missing on Wednesday last week. The body, he said had no visible injuries but had signs of strangulation.
Preliminary investigations, he said, indicated that the deceased was in the company of his 8 year old sister from school on the fateful day.
They lost their way from school but met a man who promised to show them the way back home, he said.
However, the girl sensed danger and refused to follow the man. She was later rescued by good Samaritans and taken to Central Police Station where she was reunited with the family the next day.
It’s after the rescue of the daughter that the girl revealed that the suspect who abducted the brother was once their neighbor at Bandani Estate, said the OCPD.
The parents told the police that the suspect who moved from the Estate was known to them, adding that there was no bad blood between them.
Maweu said police have obtained the suspect’s details and were following crucial leads that may lead to his arrest.
