Ministry of information officer murdered in Chavakali home

Security officers in Sabatia Sub-County are investigating circumstances that led to the murder of Geoffrey Misango, an officer with the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (MoICT).

Staff at Kenya News Agency (KNA) learnt of the sad news about Misango’s death on Friday evening.

Police and family say Misango’s body was found in a pool of blood inside his house near Chavakali Boys High school on Friday morning.

The Sub-County Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Gennaro Mwangi, confirmed the murder which is suspected to have occurred on Wednesday night.

The incident was reported to our office on Thursday morning by a son to the deceased, Mwangi told KNA, adding, Police officers rushed to the scene where they retrieved the body that had serious injuries all over, added the OCPD.

Humphrey Misango, the deceased’s son said how he bumped into his father’s lifeless body at home on Friday, two days after his brutal murder.

My efforts to get my father on phone on Wednesday and Thursday bore no fruits as his phone was permanently off, said Humphrey. He alerted neighbors who at the time were not aware of the incident.

When I arrived home, I pushed open the partially closed main door to my father’s house, recounted Humphrey, who walked into the father’s bedroom where he noticed his murdered body sprawled in pool of blood.

Close friends to the late confirmed to KNA he was last seen at Chavakali market on Wednesday day time.

He was as usual very jovial as he walked around the market on Wednesday, revealed one of his friends.

A visit by KNA to Vihiga County Referral Hospital in Mbale town where the body is revealed Misango succumbed to deep panga cuts around his head and neck. The deceased had been staying alone for almost two years after separating with his wife, Miriam who stayed at Standi Kisa, three kilometres away.

Though the OCPD said security officers were yet to establish the motive behind the murder, preliminary investigations point accusing fingers at people close to the deceased.

Police officers are investigating two women. One is his estranged wife while the other has been staying with the deceased at Chavakali market, disclosed a police officer who sought anonymity.

However, Vihiga County Police Commander, Mrs. Beatrice Gachago, urged the family, relatives and members of public to remain calm as security organs conclude investigations into the matter. We do not want to rely on speculations, she told KNA.

Until his death, Misango, aged 53 years, was a Printer with the Rural Press at Siaya County Information Office. He is survived by three children, two sons and a daughter.
