A section of Elgeyo Marakwet MCAs have rejected a bid to reinstate suspended speaker Albert Kochei.
They have asked him to stay away from the assembly until he is cleared of graft allegations against him.
Some of the MCAs had passed a motion asking Kochei to resume duty but 15 of them denounced the move.
Those opposed to the reinstatement of the speaker are Christopher Chemosong (Aror Ward), Thomas Kigen (Kaptarakwa Ward), Neddy Kiptoo (nominated) and Festus Kirop (Endo Ward).
Others are Kenneth chepseng’eny (Kamariny Ward), William Chesing’any (Kuserwo Ward), Benson Kiptire (kapyego Ward), Faith Chepkairor (nominated) and Tecla Jerotich (Chepkorio Ward).
They claimed Kochei had secretly met some MCAs and plotted for the motion to be passed at the assembly last week.
“We did not suspend him as an assembly and the house cannot reinstate him. It is absolutely beyond the Mandate of the House,” Kirop said.
He claimed the MCAs and the speaker held a meeting at Kipkorgot estate in Eldoret town a day before the reinstatement motion was “sneaked” into the assembly.
“If he knows that he is clean let him wait to be cleared and then he can come back,” Chepkairor said.
The 15 MCAs said corruption is rife at the assembly and they will not sit back and allow public resources to be wasted.
Kochei was mentioned in the EACC list of shame tabled early in the year in Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He was accused of misappropriating Sh6 million that belonged to the county.
During the passing of the motion early this week, the MCAs supporting Kochei said war on graft has collapsed and he should not suffer unnecessarily.
