A section of Kisumu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have embarked on an initiative to mobilize residents to apply for both the Identification and voter’s cards.
West Nyakach MCA, James Ochieng Omolo, said that the move aims at achieving a 100 per cent voter registration in Kisumu County.
Speaking to KNA at Kolweny trading center, Omolo said the campaign to be dubbed “Bado Mapambano” is expected to mobilize residents in a bid to address poor voter registration in the county.
This follows reports by the local IEBC officials that only three per cent of the residents of Nyakach Sub County who possess ID cards have registered as voters.
The MCA also disclosed plans to facilitate members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to enable them attend and issue voter’s cards during local functions.
He at the same time called on the IEBC personnel to take services closer to the people instead of operating centrally from their offices.
