MCA Allege Over S.1 Billion For Roads Infrastructure Squandered

Seventeen Members of Kericho County Assembly have alleged that Sh.1.1 billion meant to construct and improve roads infrastructure in the County has been squandered.

The MCAs who on Friday took to the streets in Kericho Town in a demo organised by the Kapsoit Ward MCA, Paul Chirchir Tarimbo said that for two financial years, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019, no single road in all 30 wards in Kericho has been constructed or improved.

Chirchir said that they have also established that the funds meant to improve the roads for the two financial years in the County cannot be accounted for.

The Kapsoit MCA said that the immediate former roads CEC, Charles Birech who has since been elevated as the CEC in charge of Finance in the County by the area Governor, Prof. Paul Chepkwony in a recent mini reshuffle should either be sacked or resign and be made to explain what the funds for the two financial years infrastructure were used for.

The MCAs’ plans to impeach the Finance minister, Charles Birech on Tuesday failed as the speaker Mr. Dominic Rono declared there was no quorum in the County Assembly to impeach Birech, there only 16 members in the Assembly out of 47.

The MCAs who signed the memo to impeach the finance CEC included the Kapsoit Ward MCA, Paul Chirchir Tarimbo, Sammy Rono Kimajani (Tendeno), Albert Kipkoech (Soliat), Hezron Kipngeno (Chilchila), Gilbert Ngetich Kimarus ( Kisira Ward), Humphrey Torchit Kirui ( Kapsuser).

Efforts to reach Birech to respond to the raised against him were not successful as he failed to pick our calls.

Meanwhile, another group from Kapsoit staged a parallel demonstration in Kericho Town to support embattled Finance CEC, Charles Birech.

Reuben Ng’etich Chairman of Kaposit FC castigated their MCA Paul Tarimbo for purportedly politicking at the expense of implementing key projects in their ward.
