MCA accuses KUPPET of defaming a minor

A Nairobi MCA Cecilia Achieng’ has accused the teachers’ union Kuppet of defaming the minor who was allegedly raped last month at the Moi Girls School Nairobi (MGSN).

Ms Achieng further accused Kuppet of attempting to cover up for the staff at the MGSN

She also put to task Kuppet to explain authenticity of the findings that pardoned teachers at the Moi Girls School of defiling a school girl stating that the matter is still under investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Her sentiments comes barely a week after a local daily reported that the rape claims were inconsistent with the events that transpired during the alleged night attack.

The DCI has not come out with a formal report on the same neither has there been public communication from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on whether there will be criminal culpability on any person.,said Achieng

Achieng said Kuppet should not divert public attention from the matter through findings from questionable investigations.

I am therefore shocked that Kuppet went ahead and released findings of its investigations which carry no formal authority and has therefore caused much anguish and trauma to the victim and larger students fraternity and the parent’s, she quipped.

Achieng said that this is premature speculation without any attached prove of the full investigations report and under whose mandate the same was conducted can only be interpreted to be a diversionary tactic by Kuppet aimed at salvaging one of their own.

Centre for the Peace and Reconciliation (CPR) Yusuf Hamnza demanded that the DCI to accelerates the investigations and speedily conclude on the same and reclaim full autonomy on the matter without pressure.

We are demanding that Kuppet shares a full copy of their investigations report and copies of the firm that conducted the said investigations, said Yusuf

Yusuf said that they should release a complete list of persons who they interviewed, transcribed copies of the session, any laboratories they undertook analysis and certified copies produced.

We are also demanding that Kuppet respects the privacy of the minor in question and refrains from using degrading and defamatory statements. He added

He said parents and educational stakeholders to be involved in schools safety matters.

The leader said an audit of security in all schools is needed and the Ministry of Education should centralize security services in schools to ensure only a one firm provides such services to all schools.

We need to have a discussion around safety in our schools. We have a very weird case of a girl who went missing from Ngara girl’s school and later found in Mombasa a few days ago, he explained

Hamnza said the Ministry of Education should ensure that there are no male teachers in girls’ schools to tame insecurity of the girl child.

He condemned the Kuppet for defending teachers in advance, even before investigations were concluded.
