Mining Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has said his ministry will start auditing and mapping quarries next month.
He said after the Senate approves the Mining Bill, the quarries will be regulated for safety.
Balala was speaking to journalists at Birithia Girls Secondary School, Nyeri county, during a prize-giving day on Wednesday.
He was with Othaya MP Mary Wambui and Kanini Kega of Kieni.
Balala said the mapping will start in Northern Kenya.
The CS said quarry workers have been travelling from Nyeri, where the pay is Sh7 per every stone extracted, to Mandera county, where they are paid Sh28.
Balala said the pay for workers in quarries outside Mandera should be increased.
