A 40-year- old man died after fire burnt down his timber house Monday night at Kaibu village in Meru County.
Edward Kirimi who lived alone in his house died in the fire at about 9.30 pm suspected to have been caused by a charcoal jiko.
According to the Maua town fire rescue service team leader Mr. Duncan Kimani, Kirimi’s body was found burnt beyond recognition inside the one room timber house alongside a ‘sufuria’ on the ‘njiko’ upon extinguishing of the fire.
The incident was reported to Maua police station by Timothy Muturi a neighbour who noticed the flames coming from the house before the fire brigade was informed and rushed to the scene.
Officer commanding Maua police station (OCS) Mr. David Terer said his officers went to the scene and removed the remains to Nyambene Sub county hospital mortuary pending investigations.
