The ugly spectre of domestic violence in the country reared its head once again on Thursday night in a village in Mlolongo, Machakos County when a young man beheaded his nine-year old daughter before turning the killer knife on himself, following a scuffle with his wife.
Mlolongo Chief, Peter Ndunda told the media this morning that the 29-year old building contractor arrived at his rented house in Kasina area of the sprawling township past midnight and picked a quarrel with his wife.
Sensing danger, the chief added, the wife took off leaving behind the child, a pupil at nearby academy.
We suspect that is when the irate man took a knife and sliced off the neck of the child before stabbing himself through the left hand side of the chest, explained Chief Ndunda, adding that the two died instantly.
He said after being alerted by neighbours, he rushed to the scene where he and the neighbours found the two bodies lying in a pool of blood.
Ndunda added that he immediately called in the police who dusted the house and removed the bodies to City mortuary.
They also arrested the victim’s wife as investigations into the incident kicked off, he said.
He urged young couples to desist from resorting to violence whenever they have any disagreements, but instead seek counsel from parents or other competent people.
Last night’s case is the latest in a series of similar ones that have been reported across the country in the last two months mainly involving spouses killing one another or hiring thugs to eliminate their partners.
