A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) ranger was killed and three other people seriously injured last night when armed gangsters raided a bar at Esoit trading centre in Trans Mara West.
Confirming the incident, Trans Mara West Acting OCPD, Joel Syuki said the gangsters raided the bar at around 8:30pm and started shooting indiscriminately.
In the process a KWS ranger who has been identified as Samuel Okumu, 58 who was having a drink in the same bar was shot in the neck and chest and died on the spot.
A bar attendant; Evelyne Nyakundi, 29, bar owner Jacob Nyakaru,40 and Wilson Sokoro were also shot and critically injured in the robbery that lasted less than five minutes.
The robbers also stole Sh.10, 000, proceeds from the days sales.
A contingent of security personnel are now combing the area for the suspects who escaped on foot.
The injured are fighting for their lives at Transmara West Sub county Hospital while the body of the deceased is also lying at the mortuary of same hospital pending postmortem and further investigations into the incident.
Trans Mara area and the entire county has been experiencing insecurity between the two main communities living in the area and neighbouring counties where violent clashes have been seen for some time now leading to lose of many lives and property destroyed.
Security personnel say there are tens of illegal firearms in the hands of ordinary people in Narok and the country at large.
