Man drowns while holding onto his father’s cross

A 37 year old man shocked residents of Kasuku in Nyandarua County by committing suicide while holding a cross which he plucked off his father’s grave.

Karanja Kuria who works as a cobbler at Kasuku trading centre in Ol Jorok constituency is said to have been drunk when he jumped into water well yesterday.

Area OCPD Joseph Cheruiyot told KNA that the man is

reported to have had a quarrel with his wife before heading to his father’s grave, where he grabbed the cross before plunging into the 47 feet borehole.

“We have opened an inquiry into the matter as his body awaits postmortem at Ol kalau’s JM memorial hospital,” said the police boss.

Rurii location Chief Peter Kiragu who reported the incident said that the man had been cautioned against drinking by his late father before he died recently.

“He looked disturbed by his father’s warning shortly before he committed suicide,” said Kiragu.
