A man was found dead yesterday after drinking illicit liquor in Nakuru county.

Jimmy Mwaniki, 46, was found dead after drinking in Mithuri estate, Naivasha, on Wednesday night, his mother Patricia Wambui said.

She told the Star her son complained of stomach pains. “He came home with a bottle of spirit and went straight to his house,” Wambui said.

“We rushed him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.” Yesterday, residents held a demonstration to protest against the resurgence of second-generation drinks.

Mithuri Community chairman Benjamin Wambiru said unscrupulous traders have changed tactics to evade law enforcers.

“They hide the drinks in the bush and near the cemetery,” he said.
