A man who was digging a toilet in the company of two others at Tot Day Mixed School in Kerio valley died when the pit caved in on him.
According to the school principal, Mr. Lawrence Mutwol, the man who was identified as Richard Kipkiror, 50, who was also a parent at the school was among three men who were contracted to dig a toilet at the school but it caved in while he was inside suffocating him to death.
Mutwol said he gave the three men a contract to sink the toilet on Saturday morning and in the mid-morning, they all took tea and the principal went to class.
They started digging the toilet, he said and when they reached fifteen feet and were about to close for the day, the toilet caved in covering the deceased and suffocating him to death.
Immediately we were alerted we asked for help from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), the Kenya Police Reservists (KPR), and the police but it took us two and a half hours to retrieve the body, he added.
He said that some priests from Endoo Mission helped to calm the students who were getting rowdy, we are lucky that Rev. Father Otieno from Chesongoch mission and Rev. Father Philemon Kiptoo from Endoo Parish were around to calm the students, he said.
The body was removed to the Iten County Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
