A 30-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself using a rope in Central Kwabwai location in Ndhiwa Sub-County of Homa Bay County.
The body of Samuel Ochieng Onyango was found dangling from the roof top of his house by a child sent by his Sister in law to deliver tea for him.
Confirming the incident, area Senior Chief, Patrick Lumumba Awino said Samuel returned home on Monday morning from Matata Nursing Hospital, where he had gone to seek medical attention for his leg, which had been ailing for a while.
Samuel came home yesterday at 10a.m in the morning and requested his sister-in-law, Millicent Achieng to prepare tea for him before he went into his house, said Lumumba.
The administrator revealed that the deceased could have taken his life after he was diagnosed with Cancer and that with his wife having left him he was suffering from psychological stress.
He however, expressed concern over the rising number of suicidal cases, especially among men, calling on religious institutions to provide spiritual guidance for couples.
Men encounter so many hardships every day from financial strains, to troubled marriages that drive them towards dark moments that lead to suicide, said Lumumba.
The body was taken to Homa Bay County Referral mortuary awaiting post mortem.
