Tragedy hit a family in Gem Sub County when a man committed suicide at his sister in law’s home after his wife rejected his reconciliation efforts.
The residents of Korome village in South Gem location, Siaya County were shocked after the body of the 31 year old man said to hail from Kajulu in Kisumu was found dangling on a tree.
According to South Gem location chief, Paul Nyajure, the deceased, Silas Ajwang Odhiambo had visited his sister in law after getting wind that his estranged wife who had ran away from their matrimonial home following a quarrel had sought refuge there.
The quarrel is said to have taken place last Thursday, with the man embarking on a search that culminated on Saturday when he managed to trace the wife, Benta Anyango.
Chief Nyajure said that after a long talk to resolve the differences, the man appealed to his wife to accompany him home in Kisumu but in vain.
The wife, the chief added, said she was not ready to go back to an abusive marriage and it was at this point that the dejected man left but warned of unspecified consequences.
His body was discovered Sunday hanging behind his sister in law’s house, to the consternation of the villagers, said Nyajure.
Nyajure said that police from Akala police station removed the body to Bondo sub county hospital mortuary for post mortem as investigations were launched.
