A Senior Magistrate from Machakos Courts was among three people who died on Monday following grisly road accident involving a Nissan matatu and a truck at Athi River along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
The Machakos Deputy Traffic Commander, Jack Ila confirmed that Lucy Keittany, who was the Deputy Registrar at the Machakos High Court, died on the spot during the mishap.
Three people, including the driver of the lorry, perished on the spot while ten others were critically injured.
The Athi River OCPD, Sharma Wario said the accident involved a matatu ferrying passengers from Kitui to Nairobi, and lorry that was headed to Mombasa from Nairobi.
He said the vehicles were involved in a head-on collision as the lorry driver was trying to overtake another vehicle.
However, according to sources, the Magistrate boarded the vehicle from Machakos to go and collect her car which she had earlier left in Nairobi.
The injured were rushed to Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River, while remains of the departed were taken to the mortuary in the same facility.
