Truck drivers who use the northern corridor have appealed to the government to construct a lorry park at Salgaa trading centre to reduce accidents in the area as a result of congestion.
The drivers who spoke to KNA at the trading center said that many accidents that occur along the Kibunja- Salgaa steep stretch could be avoided if there was a lorry parking lot in the area.
Their spokesperson, Mr. John Kamau, said vehicles descending the steep stretch from Eldoret ram stationary trucks parked along the highway at Salgaa trading centre causing many casualties.
They noted that the World Bank pulled out of an earlier plan to fund the construction of a lorry park as promised during the NARC regime due to deep rooted politics in the area.
The drivers asked the government to first consult with the locals to agree on compensation modules to avoid legal tussle once construction begins adding politicians have been inciting the locals to resist the construct of the truck park yet they all stand to benefit.
