The Ugunja legislator, Opiyo Wandayi on Monday faulted a contractor building the Ugunja-Ukwala-Rwambwa road for failure to observe the required standards.
Wandayi alleged that the contractor was not adhering to the set standards and questioned the management of the contract.
Speaking after inspecting the road, the MP who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PPAC) called on the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to ensure that the contractor sticks to the standards set out in the contract.
Wandayi warned that the contractor risks having the contract terminated unless he works to the expectations.
KeNha and the ministry concerned must closely monitor the construction to ensure that it is done to the required standards he said.
The legislator added that he will not sit and watch as tax payers are given a raw deal by contractors and lazy public servants.
He hailed the contractors undertaking the construction of Ugunja-Sigomere-Musanda road and the Sidindi-Mudhiero-Butere road, saying they were doing commendable jobs.
The legislator called on the contractor to ensure that they complete the projects within the stipulated time.
