A cross section of leaders in Mombasa County on Saturday joined other Kenyans in commending President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader, Raila Odinga for agreeing to work together in the best interest of the country.
The two leaders on Friday pledged to promote national unity and reconciliation.
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Leaders in Mombasa lauded Uhuru and Raila meeting said the meeting between President Kenyatta and Odinga proves that Kenyans were capable to solve their own problems and that the country was bigger than any individual.
The CIPK Organizing Secretary, Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa said the two leaders demonstrated true statesmanship and called on all Kenyans to support them in their quest to heal the country.
We have all along called on our political leaders to dialogue and seek solutions to the problems ailing our country, said Sheikh Khalifa when he addressed the media at CIPK offices in Mombasa.
The Chairman of Mombasa Council of Elders, Mohamed Jahazi paid tribute to President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga for coming together and agreeing to put aside their political differences for the sake of posterity.
Jahazi who is a former Mvita MP and Assistant Minister said the political maturity showed by the two leaders is worth emulating by all leaders across the political divide.
This is a new beginning and all leaders and Kenyans must come together to amicably find lasting solutions to our divisive politics, said Jahazi.
