The delivery of government services and security in Lamu County is set to improve tremendously after the government equipped area chiefs with motorbikes.
Speaking during the official handing over at his office on Monday, Lamu County Commissioner, Fredrick Ndambuki said that a total of 16 motorbikes have been handed over to the chiefs so as to ease their work.
Ndambuki called on the chiefs to use the motorbikes prudently to implement their mandate and improve the areas’ security, by fostering peace and communicating the government’s development agenda.
“I would like to thank the office of the President for buying the motorbikes for our chiefs and we hope that this will be a motivation to the chiefs in their work”, said Ndambuki.
Some of the locations and sub-locations which will benefit from the motorbikes are Kizingitini, Kiunga, Milimani, Mokowe, Hindi, Mpeketoni and Witu.
Lamu County Principal Chief, Abdalla Shahasi asked his fellow chiefs to use the motorbikes for the right purposes and not to run personal errands.
“Let us use the motorbikes to improve on security and other important things like education; we have many parents who don’t take their children to school which the government is offering for free, let us use the motorbikes to follow up on such parents and try to improve on our education standards”, said Shahasi.
