Former Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri’s Cabinet nomination ends the county’s nearly three decades of political isolation, area leaders have said.

In a shuffle on Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Kiunjuri to the Devolution ministry.

“It is exactly 27 years since this region had a senior government officer,” deputy assembly speaker Peter Kimondo said.

“We would like to thank the President and Deputy President for remembering us.”

Kimondo addressed the press on Wednesday in Nanyuki town.

Present were Laikipia MCAs and former municipal mayor Isaac Muthee.

Youth leader Kariuki Mugo said they will judge Kiunjuri by his work.

“We can’t say if his appointment is good or bad, as we don’t know if we’ll benefit,” he said.
