Kilifi county government has distributed 250 bags of maize and 100 bags of beans of relief food to hunger stricken people in Marereni area of Magarini Sub County.
Addressing a gathering at Marereni trading centre yesterday while distributing the food the area Member of County Assembly Adu ward Mr. Stanley Kenga Karissa said the area has been experiencing inadequate rainfall for four consecutive rain seasons resulting into severe drought.
Mr. Kenga also blamed the pastoralists from the neighbouring Tana River County who allow their livestock graze on farmers’ crops whenever farms are planted.
Speaking at the same function Ms. Janet Kiti one of the residents says that they have been experiencing inadequate rainfall for the past six years but the national government has not intervened
She called on the national government to dig boreholes and dams so that the affected residents could use water from those sources for irrigation farming in order avoid food shortage in the area.
