Kidney patients have started receiving dialysis at the new renal centre at the Murang’a Level 4 Hospital.
The Sh30 million unit has four dialysis machines with capacity to treat eight patients per day at subsidised prices.
Two machines were donated by the KCB Foundation.
More than 10 patients have been treated since the centre was opened last week.
Governor Mwangi Wairia commissioned the centre on Wednesday.
He said the facility will be expanded to accommodate more patients and ensure they access timely and efficient treatment.
“The centre will cut down travel and accommodation costs for patients seeking treatment in Nairobi,” Wairia said.
