The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has rolled out a programme to identify and nurture talent among youth.
The Board Regional Manager (RM), Emmanuel Mbutu said the sinema mashinani programme will be undertaken in partnership with the Department of Youth and other stakeholders in the area.
Mbutu said the programme to be unveiled in all counties across the country, will assist youths to to develop their talents.
Addressing the media in his Eldoret office on Tuesday, the RM said through this government initiative, young people will be facilitated to come up with creative productions at the local level.
Young people will be facilitated to come up with creative production at local level which encompasses our cultural and social diversity and uphold our moral values, he said.
Mbutu said the board appreciates that the creativity industry is among the largest contributors of income to the global economy, since it has the potential to create employment opportunities for thousands of jobless youths in the country.
Talent development and creation of employment opportunities for the youth, will lead to attainment of the government’s Big Four Agenda, he added.
Meanwhile, the board has in the recent past nurtured creative talent by sponsoring youth to participate in local and international festivals for exposure and benchmarking.
The RM also said that others have been given full sponsorship by the Board to study at the Kenya Film School to have their creative skills nurtured.
And to help create a pool of great artists from young people in schools, the Board will in 2019 be the title sponsors of the national drama and film festivals at a the cost of Sh.20 million.
According to Mbutu, this will go a long way in achieving the 60 percent local content threshold as stipulated in the government programming code.
The festival will provide a platform to identify and nurture young talent beyond school, help inculcate moral values, provide a platform for socialization, and promote our diversity and positive social values, he added.
