This year’s Kenya Technical Trainings Institutes Sports Organization national games kick off today in Kisumu.
The event, which will feature football, volleyball, basketball, handball, hockey and rugby, will be staged at various venues including Kisumu Day, Jomo Kenyatta sport ground, Kisumu Polytechnic and Lions High School. The event has attracted 32 teams.
“We expect very tough competition this year as most of the institutes have brought in new players who have joined them and we look forward to entertaining competition in all the disciplines,” said Evans Bosire, who is also the Athletics Kenya PRO.
Girls football will be among the main attractions with defending champions Friends College Kaimosi looking to retain their crown against formidable opposition including Kabete Technical and Mombasa Technical Training Institute in Group ‘A’ among others. Basketball will also draw massive attention and so will hockey, which is among the popular games in the region. Sang’alo, Kabete and Sigalagala start favourites to clinch the rugby crown as they boast of players from western Kenya, the hub of game. The event ends on Wednesday.
