Kericho man hacks to death wife, son and nephew

A suspect who allegedly hacked his wife to death, son and nephew at his home in Kebenti village in Soin/Sigowet Sub-county, Kericho on Thursday has been arrested.

Gedion Cheruiyot Langat, 30, is accused of committing the brutal murders following a domestic quarrel with his wife yesterday at around 11pm.

Confirming the incident, area police commander, James Mugera, said neighbours overheard the suspect quarrelling with his wife and this prompted them to intervene when they heard loud screams coming from the home.

The villagers on arrival found the door of the house locked from inside, but on attempting to open it the suspect came out while armed with a bloody panga threatening to kill anyone attempting to approach him. He then managed to flee into the darkness, added Mugera.

The police chief said the neighbours on entering the house found the bodies of the suspect’s 28-year-old wife, his three-year-old son and eight-year-old nephew lying in a pool of blood with ghastly deep panga cuts on them.

The suspect was arrested today morning at 5.30am at Cheptenye Boys secondary school, where he had gone into hiding and was escorted to Kericho police station where he is being held for questioning.

We received information that a man armed with a panga was seen entering Cheptenye Boys secondary school and locked himself inside an empty room where he was threatening to kill anyone who would touch him, saying he had already killed others. Police officers rushed to the scene and arrested him, said Mugera.

Mugera said the suspect will be arraigned in court after police complete investigations into the matter.

The bodies were taken to Soin/Sigowet Sub-county mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
