KENYAN WOMEN LEAVE FOR JAPAN TO PLAY IN WORLD VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

NAIROBI– The Kenyan national women’s volleyball team leaves for Japan Tuesday to participate in the World Volleyball championship to be held from Sept 29 to Oct 20.

This is the first time in eight years that the Malkia Strikers are taking part in the World Championship after they qualified alongside African champions Cameroon by finishing runners-up the Confederation of African Volleyball Women’s Championship in October last year.

The team, under the charge of Japheth Munala, have been grouped in the tournament’s Pool D and will face Kazakhstan in their opening match before playing Serbia, Puerto Rico, defending champions Brazil and the Dominican Republic.

Twenty four teams will be taking part in this championship with the top four sides from each pool advancing to the second round.
