KENYAN ORGANIZERS OF WORLD U-18 ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS RECEIVE SPONSORESHUP BOOST

NAIROBI, The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the World Under-18 Athletics Championships to be held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani here next month has received a sponsorship boost worth 20 million shillings (about 193,400 US dollars) from the Kenya Tourism Board.

With barely three weeks to go to the 10th IAAF World Under-18 Championships from July 12 to 16, the 20 million shilling sponsorship must have come at the right time for the LOC which is striving to put on a successful show.

LOC chairman Mwangi Muthee underlined the importance of the championship saying it will help showcase Kenya’s talent to the world.

Kenya Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Betty Radier says the event presents Kenya with an opportunity to market itself as a prime sports destination.

The five-day championship has attracted the participation of 120 countries. Kenya will be hosting the event for the first time and will be second African country to do so after Morocco in 2005.
