The chef de mission of the Kenyan team to the Rio de Janeriro Olympic Games, Stephen Soi, has been released on a cash bail of 200,000 shillings (about 2,000 US dollars) on his first appearance to answer to charges of theft, abuse of office and mismanagement of the Kenyan team at the Games.
Soi and his colleagues are facing charges of theft, abuse of office and mismanagement of team Kenya after athletes complained of mistreatment by National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) officials while in camp in Eldoret, Kenya, and in Brazil.
Just like his co-accused, Soi was directed by the court Thursday to report to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (CID) headquarters here twice a week, not to interfere with witnesses or appear at the NOCK offices and to deposit his passport in court for the remaining period until investigations are complete.
Soi, F.K. Paul and Fridah Shiroya are expected in court together on Sept 19 to plead to the charges against them.
