NAIROBI– Members of the Kenya athletics sprints and middle distance teams who will take part in next month’s Commonwealth Games in Queensland, Australia, has begun the final phase of their training at the Karura Forest and Kasarani Stadium facilities respectively.
The athletics team has had ample time to prepare for the Games where the squad members will seek to enrich the country’s dominance in athletics.
African junior 400 metres silver medalist Alex Sampao has expressed confidence that he will clinch a gold medal when he makes his debut in the Games.
World Youth and Commonwealth 1,500 metres champion Kumari Taki who has joined the senior team has vowed to emulate his seniors and has promised to put on a dazzling performance.
This year’s Commonwealth Games will be held from April 4 to 15. In the 2014 Games, Kenya topped the athletics medal standings with ten Gold, ten Silver and five Bronze medals.
