If Kenya Volleyball Federation decides to enter the national women’s team in another Olympics qualifier they are on their own, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) has said.
Malkia Strikers failed to earn a ticket to the Rio Games during the just-concluded African qualifier in Cameroon.
They lost 2-3 to their arch-rivals Egypt in the semis.
Team Kenya Chef de Mission Stephen arap Soi dropped a hint that there would be no support from Nock.
The federation is undecided over whether to send the team to the play-off round qualifier scheduled for Japan next month.
In a telephone interview, Soi said: “We invest 100,000 US Dollars (S0.1 million) every year in volleyball. It’s unfortunate that our women’s team failed to qualify.”
He was asked if Nock would foot the Japan bill after sponsoring the Cameroon trip for Sh3 million.
Soi said: “Competition would be even tougher at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan.
I doubt if they can clinch the only ticket on offer. It would be a waste of resources, we don’t stand a chance.”
