NAIROBI, — Kenya will select 30 athletes this Saturday to participate in the 5th African Cross-Country Championships to be held at Chlef, Algeria, on March 17.
However, two-time World Cross-Country champion Geoffrey Kamworor will not be among the runners making the trip as he has ruled himself out of the competition, after indicating that he will focus on running at the World Half Marathon in Valencia, Spain, on March 24.
The first six runners in each of the five events to be held during the trials this weekend will be picked for the trip to Algeria and the selected team will report to the training camp on Feb 20 at the Kigari Teachers Training College before their departure for Algiers on march 13.
Kenya dominated the 42nd edition of the IAAF World Cross Country Championship held last year in Kampala, Uganda, collecting 95 points and 10 medals in total — three gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
