KENYA POWER PLANS TO CONNECT ELECTRICITY TO 70% OF POPULATION END 2017

NAIROBI, Nov 29 (NNN-KBC) — Kenya Power managing Director Dr. Ben Chum has reaffirmed that the company is committed to connecting more people to the national grid.

He said by the end of 2017 about 70% of the Kenya Population will have been connected to power at affordable fee.

He noted that in the last two years, over 2.2 million people have been able to get access to power connections.

Dr. Chumo however noted that the biggest impediment is the cost of connectivity for many Kenyans but with the global partnership with the World Bank, this has seen tremendous reduction of the costs from the earlier 35,000 down to 1,000 shillings. — NNN-KBC
