National champions Gor Mahia started their Africa Champions League campaign on a wrong footing, losing 1-2 to CNaPs from Madagascar on Saturday at home.
The results, perhaps is a culmination of the happening at Gor Mahia whose house seems to be crumbling only a season after they enjoyed their best football ever, winning the 2015 Kenya Premier League unbeaten.
The harmony displayed within the playing unit, the technical bench and the clubs secretariat worked well for the team despite financial problems.
That unity seems to be waning with cracks emerging between the management, the technical bench and the players.
The players refused to receive their silver medals after the team lost 0-1 to Bandari in the Dstv Super Cup final. That happened just a day after coach Frank Nuttal had allegedly been fired over contractual issues.
The coach was later reinstated after pressure from fans but that didn’t save them from Bandari defeat.
This is not the kind of atmosphere that can help produce results for the club at the continental level and club chairman Ambrose Rachier must address the problems bedevilling the club.
The team needs to concentrate and train well since the second leg against CNaPs in Madagascar will not be easy.
