Medical services in Embu have resumed after doctors ended a week-long strike after an agreement with the County Government that will see more health personnel employed and promotion issues addressed.
Health Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri says the agreement was signed following an intervention by the Central Government, which he says is determined to ensure health service operations are not paralyzed in any part of the country.
According to the return to work formula, “the County Public Service Board will recruit 10 medical officers posted by the intergovernmental relations technical committee in May 2016 by 2nd of October.”
The Embu County Public Service Board will also employ four consultants; one physician, a radiologist, anaesthesiologist and a nephrologists.
The Principal Secretary also says they are in talks with the County Government of Machakos, to help find a solution to the ongoing doctor’s strike.
The doctors want a pay increase while complaining about their delayed salaries.
