A day after KDF killed three al Shabaab fighters who attacked them in Basuba, Lamu East, the military has intensified the hunt for those who escaped.
Speaking on the phone yesterday, KDF spokesperson David Obonyo said many of the militants who escaped had serious bullet wounds.
On Wednesday, a KDF vehicle ran over an IED planted by the militia on the Basuba-Mangai route that is constantly used by the military.
The operations have been concentrated in and around Boni Forest.
Areas around Boni have become notorious as militia hideouts.
They include Pandanguo, Milimani, Mangai, Mararani and some parts of Kiunga and Ishakani in Lamu East.
Obonyo appealed to residents to cooperate with security officers in the operations to rid the area of al Shabaab.
He asked people to be vigilant and report anyone with bullet wounds.
“We have had good cooperation from the public. The operation to hunt down those militants who escaped is underway already,” Obonyo said.
Lamu coordinating commander Chrispus Mutali said given the severity of fighters’ injuries, many bodies are expected to be found in the forest.
